Filmwax is a Brooklyn-based film series which screens independent narrative and documentary feature films to New York audiences. Venues and locations vary, but all events maintain a level of intimacy and audience engagement. Post-screening panels includingfFilmmakers & others are a crucial part of the experience.
Filmwax hosts one-off screenings, theatrical engagements, rough cut/works in progress screenings, fundraisers and DVD release parties. Since its inception in February of 2011, there have been over 80 events. Programmer/founder Adam Schartoff remains committed to the creative community that comprise the Filmwax film series and continues to provide ongoing support.
Among the film events Filmwax has hosted are: Zachary Levy's STRONGMAN, Trish Dalton & Elisabeth Sperling's ONE NIGHT STAND, Katie Dellamaggiore's BROOKLYN CASTLE, Joe Berlinger's BROTHER'S KEEPER (a 20th anniversary screening), Gregory Kohn's NORTHEAST, Michael Galinsky & Suki Hawley's BATTLE FOR BROOKLYN, Kelly Anderson's MY BROOKLYN, Doug Block's THE KIDS GROW UP, Tia Lessin & Carl Deal's TROUBLE THE WATER, Marshall Curry's RACING DREAMS, and Lena Dunham's TINY FURNTIURE.
Venues Filmwax has screened in include the reRun Theater, UnionDocs, the 92Y/Tribeca, the Maysles Cinema, The Brooklyn Heights Cinema, the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture. Filmwax has partnered up with many film organizations including IFP (the Independent Filmmaker Project), the Brooklyn Museum, POV and Criterion Collection.
