How to Format an Address That Will Geocode Into a Map
Tips for entering a good address that can be converted (“geocoded”) into an embeddable map.
Festology automatically converts addresses into maps. Here are some tips for making sure the address you enter along with your venues makes maps as accurate as they can be:
- Test out the address in Google Maps first! (There’s also a link to test your address within the Venues section of Festology). Google and other mapping services are very forgiving if you leave off information, but if your map is crap, keep reading…
- A missing zip code is probably the reason. Add a zip code.
- Are you using this format? ADDRESS, CITY, STATE ZIP You should be!
- Are you trying to map an intersection? Brackets confuse the geocoding hamsters that make your maps. To reference an intersection, use this format: 123 1st St. at 1st Avenue, NY, NY, 10000 or 1st St. and 1st Ave, NY, NY
- You don’t have to sneak the venue name or location into the address. Festology automatically enhances your maps with the name of your venue.
