New to managing events with Festology? Skim through the dictionary of terms.
Events: “Events” are part of a “series”. You may have one “event” as part of a series, or you may have hundreds. You can define your “event” any way you like, but most people think of “events” in relation to how they sell tickets, when it is or where it is. A panel could be an “event”. A film screening could be an “event”. A concert could be an “event”. A day-long festival could be a single “event” because you’re selling one ticket, but you’d probably want to break out “events” based on times and “venues”. You can connect “performers”, “participants”, “sponsors”, “venues” and “works to an “event”, but an “event” can only be part of one “series”.
Pages: Pages are unchanging pages that don’t connect to event, films, panels, venues, sponsors, etc. Use pages for your organization’s history, staff bios, submission information, ticketing information, FAQs, sponsorship details… A “page” can be part of many “series”.
Performers: a.k.a bands, singers, comedians… A “performer” can be part of many “series”.
Participants: a.k.a. speakers, panelists, moderators, artists, cast and crew… “Participants” can be added to “works”. A “participant” can be part of many “series”.
Series: This is a grouping of “events”. If you have an annual conference, a “series” specifies the edition of the conference (example: Festology Demo Festival 2011 or Festology Demo Festival 2012).
Sponsors: The folks that helped make your series happen. “Sponsors” can be connected to “events” and organized per “series”. A “sponsor” can be part of many “series”.
Venues: This is the location of an event. You don’t have to worry about the specific room number (because the “event” specifies the precise location). A “venue” can be part of many “series”.
Widgets: Widgets are special kinds of info pages that are available to themes. The short name of the widget is important, because that’s how the theme knows to find it. A “widget” can be part of many “series”.
Works: A work is a film, play, recorded presentation or some other piece of art. It can have people connected to it, but it’s not an event. You can’t sell tickets to it and it doesn’t have a timeslot until it’s connected to an “event”. A “work” can be part of many “series”.
