Five lucky scribes will be selected to pitch their scripts to a panel who will give them the industry know-how they need to improve their strategy. The panel of producers and agents will hear each pitch and give feedback on how it can be improved, giving critical insight into the buyer’s mind. Moderator Susan Wrubel , Head of US Acquisitions & Production, Salt and Head of Film Industry Relations, SlatedSusan is a film industry veteran with 16 years of experience in film distribution and acquisitions. Having worked for US indies, a mini-major, a foreign-sales company and international buyers, she has a global perspective on cinema today, putting projects and people together on multiple continents. From acquiring completed features and projects at script stage, to helping source production resources and aid in packaging, Susan is able to draw on an international network of producers and production partners, distributors, agents, managers and financiers to help get film projects into appropriate hands. Current clients include The Salt Co. (www.salt-co.com) and Slated (www.slated.com).
Panelists Aida is Director of Acquisitions at Visit Films. A native New Yorker, she spent five years in the UK, having received a Masters in European Film Studies from the University of Edinburgh and worked at the Edinburgh International Film Festival as a film programmer. She has served on a number of international film festival juries and panels and speaks fluent Spanish.
Peter Phok , Producer, Glass Eye PixPeter Phok has produced a number of films with Larry Fessenden’s Glass Eye Pix, his latest being Ti West’s The Innkeepers. A graduate of New York’s School of Visual Arts, Phok first worked on fellow SVA classmate Ti West’s The Roost, where he served as production manager. Two years later, he produced West’s Trigger Man. Since then, Phok has produced eight other Glass Eye Pix films, including West’s The House of the Devil, Graham Renzick’s I Can See You, Glenn McQuaid's I Sell the Dead, and Jim Mickle’s Stake Land, which won the 2010 Midnight Madness Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Peter Van Steemburg , Head of Acquisitions, Magnolia PicturesPeter Van Steemburg is the Director of Acquisitions at Magnolia Pictures and Magnet Releasing. Prior to Magnolia, Peter was part of the International Distribution and Operations team at Miramax Films and worked for the Film Finance department at Cinetic Media, run by John Sloss. Now working to acquire films for Magnolia, he participated in the negotiations for such films as Bronson and Chawz. He is a regular participant at festivals and markets worldwide. Peter graduated from Williams College with a B.A. in Art History.
